As an alternative choice to a rise within the state gasoline tax or the burden of a self reported mileage tax, maybe we must always take into account taxing one other consumable: tires.
Till sensible folks invent another, all autos use tires and tires have a finite lifetime. A tax added to new tires when bought, together with on new automobiles, might add the additional income wanted and catch everybody who makes use of our roads.
An imprecise estimate of about $15 per tire would generate a ten% improve in funds for highways. Consumers would search for longer-lasting tires and scale back the waste tire stream.
